Good for sports, swimmingSep 03, 2009 I was just looking for a more classical looking watch that I can safely play sports and swim in since my other watch has a leather band. This does both jobs. The rubber band seems durable, and I don't have any problem telling the time. The light is good at night, too. As others mentioned, the temperature function isn't that handy: it reads your body temperature for the most part, but takes a long time to adjust when you take it off. You're never quite sure if it is finished adjusting. I do miss having either a chronograph, or at least a movable ring for timing things.

NOT A COMPASSJan 04, 2009 three stars - really still don't know much about this watch, just received it a hour or so ago - first thing the description says this is a compass watch - it is NOT. it does temp and tide, time and date - i bought it to use the compass so , not too happy about that - i just contacted the seller and am waiting for a response.
on the upside - nice clean watch, yes pretty big. the strap is resin/rubber, as i have had on another timex expedition watch, but this one is soft and tough at the same time, softer than on my previous watch. very nice. overall i was really happy with the appearance of the watch when i opened the box, then i saw the WHAT? NO COMPASS? thing and well i guess back it goes...
Expedition E-Tide & Temp(tm) Oct 31, 2008 This watch was a gift to my husband. He absolutely loves it. With a large extended family, living all over the globe, they all have fun when he tells them when their tides are coming and going. The temp feature is great now that summer has gone. It is great looking and a fun conversation piece, a real "Ice Breaker"!
Nice watchOct 02, 2008 This is a BIG watch - including buttons on side, it's 5 cm across (2 inches). Masculine looking. Quite heavy. Some concentration required to decide which hands are for the hours and minutes, compared to the third hand for other measurements. Band is actually rubber; description stated band was cloth. Recommended for anyone looking for these features: time, tide, date, temperature.
Classy watchJun 16, 2008 I wanted this watch to keep track of the tides in San Francisco Bay and it does that well. I set it to match Angel Island and adjust for local time differences. Great for planning the day because I can judge when I can sail out of the channel and when to catch the tide. The temperature feature works nicely too, as long as I take the watch off so it isn't affected by body heat.
I get compliments on its looks. People are surprised it's a Timex. On the down side there are no minute marks so telling time is approximate.
For the money it's a good value.
